Chevy 2500 HD
Lawn · lawn
Heavy-duty pickup with a 1,300 lb hydraulic lift gate — the dedicated Cub Cadet XT2 transport and material hauling truck. The lift gate is the critical piece: confirm every load is under 1,300 lb before raising, always lower the gate FULLY before driving a machine on, and operator MUST step off the gate before raising it.
Quick Reference
- Fuel: Regular (87 min) unleaded — per owner's manual
- Lift gate limit: 1,300 lb maximum — confirm before every load
- Primary machine: Cub Cadet XT2 (~500 lb, well within limit)
- Gravely on this truck?: NO — Gravely is ~1,000 lb; haul via NPR ramps
- Brake controller: Must be responsive before rolling — check at shop
- Tie-down: 4 straps minimum, wheel chocks or additional straps for XT2
- Gate procedure: Lower FULLY before loading; operator off gate before raising
- End of day: Lift gate fully stowed and latched before parking

Fuel
Regular (87 minimum) unleaded per the owner's manual. This truck is NOT a small engine — premium is wasted money here and the manual does not require it.
- Regular (87 min) unleaded — per Chevy 2500 HD owner's manual
- E10 max — same as all vehicles
- Fuel above 1/2 tank before rolling
- Do NOT put premium fuel in this truck unless the shop specifically directs otherwise
Lift Gate Procedure
Follow this procedure every single time. A machine tipping off a partially-lowered gate is a totaling event — there is no shortcut.
- Park on level ground; truck in park; parking brake set; chock wheels if any grade
- Lower the gate FULLY to the ground before driving any machine onto it — never load onto a partially-lowered gate
- Drive the machine on SLOWLY and SQUARE to the gate; stop with wheels centered, not on the edges
- Set the machine's parking brake; PTO OFF; ignition OFF; key out; fuel cap tight
- Operator MUST step OFF the gate before raising — hands and feet clear of hinges and pinch points at all times during gate operation
- Raise the gate to bed height; THEN secure the machine with straps before moving the truck
- Gate must be fully latched in the stowed position before driving anywhere
- The Cub Cadet XT2 is ~500 lb dry — confirm that any attachments (bagger, wheel weights, etc.) don't push it over the 1,300 lb limit
- The Gravely Pro-Turn 160 is ~1,000–1,100 lb — it is too heavy for this gate; it goes on the NPR ramps
- Never stack equipment on the gate; never use the gate as a work platform
- If any doubt about weight: use the scale at the shop or default to the NPR ramps
Tie-Down Rules
Lawn tractor wheels can roll under a slack strap — wheel chocks or additional strapping at the wheels is required for the Cub Cadet.
- Minimum FOUR anchor points per machine — one strap to each corner
- Aggregate WLL of all straps must be at least 50% of machine weight — read every strap tag; retire any strap with unreadable WLL
- Run straps over solid frame only — never over plastic shrouds, seats, or steering wheels
- Wheel chocks OR additional straps at the wheels on the Cub Cadet — lawn-tractor wheels roll under a slack strap during braking
- Re-check all straps after the first 50 miles or first stop
