Lawn · lawn

Deck Belt Inspection & Replacement

StepProcedure
AccessDisengage PTO and lower deck to lowest position. Disconnect front draft rod, rear lift links, and PTO clutch wire connector. Slide deck out from left side.
InspectCheck for glazing (shiny hard surface), cracking across belt width, fraying on edges, or chunks missing. Press midspan — should deflect 3/8"–1/2" under 5 lbs. Stretched or glazed belt slips under load.
ReplaceRoute new belt per routing decal on deck shell (separate mule-drive and deck-drive belts — replace the one that failed). Seat all idler pulleys and belt keepers before testing.
TestReinstall deck. Test PTO at low throttle. Belt should not slip, squeal, or smoke. Verify deck level has not shifted.

Troubleshooting

Try the field fix first. Stop and call the shop for anything listed as 'Stop & Call.'
